The wonders of the winter sky
and the human being.

In November the splendid display of fall colors end, and we are greeted everyday by the beauty of the Colorado winter sky.  We find in the winter sunrise and sunset the cool turquoise, and the glowing vermilion/orange and carmine/red together with the cobalt blue which stretches on and on.
The color turquoise we can also find in glaciers and ice.
The glow and warmth of vermilion and carmine in the burning logs in the fireplace.

These appearing and disappearing colors in the sky, and those surrounding us in nature and on walls affect us.  When we are hot in summer, and we want clarity for thinking it helps

to be surrounded by cool colors like turquoise and blue green.
In the winter when it is cold we know the effects of warm colors

like vermilion and carmine.

When we watch the sunrise and sunset colors we see them appear and change, until the light or darkness takes over.
In every season we witness the changing colors in nature around us.
This is movement, this is a process of life!

Painting exercises developed by Liane Collot d’Herbois focuses on movement,
on bringing health to the processes needed for life.
We paint the colors and the color nuances according to their movement and quality we can observe in the atmosphere,

in the sky.
From that palette we choose specific colors which give healthy impulses for our inner movements.

We can direct the warmth to where it is needed for digestion, enthusiasm,
and for strength to face the challenges in life.
The coolness to where it is needed for clarity of thinking and consciousness.
Directing warmth and coolness engages heart, lungs and all other processes, and creates
healthy impulses for our activity in body, soul and spirit.

Golden Light
Visit an aspen grove in Autumn when sunlight is shining through the leaves; it is easy to experience how powerful an effect color can have on our being.
With the colors of leaves and flowers gone, the colors in the sky during sunrise and sunset become more striking. The colors seem to visit for a short time, appearing and disappearing,
greeting the new day or bringing closure to the day that has been.
Here also sunlight shining through the atmosphere can create a special golden light around us. Contemplation and wonder about creation and life are often experienced
while enjoying colors in nature.
At these times the colors are not only around us, they are also in us, nourishing us.

We feel more alive!  Our heart, lungs and blood circulation receive a healthy sunlight color bath, which reaches deep into our body, soul, and spirit, affecting not only our feelings and thoughts
but also our physical processes of metabolism.
Veil Painting, building up the colors slowly has the same effects in us.  The image below is an example of such a painting showing this golden light as atmospheric interactions
of light, color and darkness.

Colors everywhere.

It is breathtaking, relaxing, invigorating!  The colors are everywhere around us.

We don’t have to go far. As soon as we step outdoors we are greeted by flowers in every imaginable color.  The flowers
find a way to grow from cracks in side walks, in yards, parks, around streams, in valleys and on the mountains.

It is like the colors of the sunrise and sunset, and the colors of the rainbow have come down to earth, and multiplied to appear in all different tones and shades in nature everywhere around us.

The wintery earth-tones of soil and rocks, the spring-greens of the grasses and leaves enhances every color of flowers and blossoms in all their color nuances.
What a perfect gift of nature to spend time with!

We can enjoy them, study the many colors in just one flower petal, observe and wonder about the color changes of the flowers from one day to the next.
When we want to relax after a day of stress we experience the the soft pink and violet flowers as the perfect choice to spend time with. To be invigorated, to be called to action the bright orange and red flowers are our choice. In both situations we feel nourished.

Wishing you a Wonderful and Colorful Sum
mer!

Viriditas, Greening Power of Spring,
and the Human Being

In early spring we experience the greening of nature around us. Plants and grasses are sending
their first green shoots out of the ground.  Here and there the bright colors of the crocus meet us.
It makes one breath deeper and gives new energy.

Viriditas, -Greening Power- were the words, the mystic Hildegard von Bingen, (1098-1179)
gave to the greening of the earth, the power of springtime.

We welcome green in early spring time. We happily walk, play and picnic on the green grass.
We find green plant life in streams and ponds.  A little higher we find it on the trees.
The new leaves on the aspen trees look like newborn little happy beings full of life.
Of course we are amazed and count ourselves lucky when we see the Green Flash
anytime in the year, as a thin rim around the upper edge of the sun at sunrise or sunset,
and the green as a flash up into the sky.

The greening of plant life each spring is an activity of cosmic order in place and time,
and so is the appearance of the green flash. The green flash appears in the sky,
in contrast to the green rising directly out of the earth.
The color of the green flash looks different from the green colors around us.

Like all colors, green colors have an affect on us. We may experience the green in nature a
soothing, relaxing, gently strengthening our life forces in body and soul.
The green seen as the Green Flash in the sky may give awareness of the spirit in us.

We can also set out to painting the green colors each in in their own quality, and experience
the effects on our body, soul and spirit, on our inner activities of thinking, feeling and willing.
The images below are an example of such a painting.
Two green colors were used: A nearly white green in the upper part,

with an earthy darker green lower in the painting. Burned sienna and violet were added
to enhance the two greens, and to create additional color nuances.
Images are from veil paintings, painted during
The Foundation course in Light, Color and Darkness in Denver 2010.
